Nordic Propane R290 Monoblock Air/Water Heat Pump
The Nordic Propane R290 air-to-water heat pump is the perfect combination of the greenest heat pump solution and the latest technology. Available in various capacities, with more sizes on the way, the Nordic Propane R290 can be used for both private residential and commercial installations. For residential use, the capacity is sized based on an ambient temperature of -7°C. The Nordic Propane R290 air-to-water heat pump is suitable for both new builds and for replacing gas or oil boilers in existing homes.
The Nordic Propane R290 heat pump handles both heating and hot water production in one unit. In general, there have been significant price increases for all well-known brands such as Panasonic, LG, Vølund, and Vaillant air-to-water heat pumps. With the upcoming introduction of propane from these well-known manufacturers, prices are expected to rise further. However, with the Nordic Propane R290, we are able to maintain the same price level as traditional chemical refrigerants like R32 and R410A.
What is Propane, and Why is it a Good Refrigerant?
Propane consists of three carbon atoms and is classified as a hydrocarbon, commonly used in bottled gas. It is a flammable refrigerant, a colorless gas with a boiling point of -42.09°C. Its chemical composition and physical properties make propane the optimal refrigerant solution for air-to-water heat pumps. It allows for high water temperatures of up to 70°C without causing high refrigerant pressure, unlike R32 and R410A. This high temperature is a great advantage for Legionella protection and when replacing existing gas or oil heating systems. Water systems in older homes, designed for gas or oil boilers, may require higher water temperatures than heat pumps with R32 and R410A can provide. R290/propane shares characteristics with R22, which used to be the most common refrigerant in air-to-water heat pumps. R22 was phased out due to its negative environmental impact. One of the main reasons to choose propane and the Nordic Propane R290 heat pump is that the refrigerant contains no PFAS or PFOS.
Propane will be the refrigerant solution of the future. Why use traditional chemical refrigerants containing PFAS and PFOS, which are harmful to human health and the environment? All heat pump manufacturers, such as Panasonic, LG, Vølund, and Vaillant, will soon offer propane solutions if they haven’t already. The Nordic Propane R290 private label offers a propane heat pump solution at the right price. The R290 propane solution is just as eligible for subsidies as heat pumps using other refrigerants.
The Nordic Propane R290 heat pump is available only as a monoblock solution. Due to strict regulations related to the refrigerant, the liquid/gas must not enter the building, meaning split systems, which were once popular, can no longer be used.
The Nordic Propane R290 air-to-water heat pump comes with full monitoring from the moment it is powered on.
The Nordic Propane R290 air-to-water heat pump is the greenest solution in heat pump technology, thanks to its refrigerant. There are no alternatives as environmentally friendly.
Although the R290 refrigerant is flammable, the machine’s design, complying with strict regulations, ensures it is entirely safe to use.
Private customers can reduce their electricity prices if their consumption exceeds 4000 kWh per year. This makes it advantageous to own both an air-to-water heat pump and an electric car. Many people considering district heating overlook this. Choosing district heating ties you to a large debt, while with a heat pump, you can switch electricity providers.
The GWP (Global Warming Potential) value of R290, or propane, is 3, which is a key reason to choose this solution. GWP measures how harmful a refrigerant is to the environment. This low GWP value makes R290 a better choice than R32 or R410A, which have GWP values exceeding 700.
Propane refrigerant for air-to-water heat pumps replaces old chemical refrigerants like R22 and R502, which were phased out due to their harmful environmental impact. R290, used in air-to-water heat pumps, is a hydrocarbon refrigerant with the chemical formula C3H8. Although R290 is flammable and explosive, it is safe to use in air-to-water heat pumps. During operation, the refrigerant circulates in a hermetically sealed system, which contains only propane. It is only dangerous when mixed with oxygen (O2) and exposed to heat or an open flame. As long as the refrigerant stays inside the system, no dangerous situation can arise. The sealed system is located entirely within the outdoor unit. Should a leak occur, all electrical components in the unit are thoroughly tested to ensure no sparks could ignite the propane. In summary, if one of the following conditions is missing—oxygen, propane, or an ignition source—there is no risk of fire or explosion. Additionally, the amount of refrigerant in the heat pump is small, and in the case of a leak, the propane concentration would quickly dissipate. Propane is also used in camping stoves, and accidents are very rare, so there is no greater risk when using it in a heat pump.
We look forward to delivering your new Nordic Propane R290 air-to-water heat pump.
